Ann Twomey is Director/Secretary of Kinsale Community Response to Dementia Ltd (K-CoRD) a three year project, funded jointly by the American Philanthropies and the Irish Health Service Executive through the Genio Dementia Programme and is committed to the establishment of a comprehensive community based, person centred response to dementia. Core activities are to identify, mobilise and develop community based supports and innovative technological solutions with the aim of supporting Carers and enabling people with dementia to remain at home longer, living active lives. The findings of this project will inform the Irish National Dementia Strategy.
There are four streams to the K-CoRD project: Individualised Support, Community, Education and Assistive Technology. Ann is the Lead in Assistive Technology which is an intrinsic part of Individualised Support.
Ann has personal experience of the challenges facing a Carer. She has learned at first hand about dementia care and also about the value of multidisciplinary approach for persons with dementia and for Carers. Ann has facilitated the formation of a local Dementia Carers’ Group and advises on innovative respite solutions. K-CoRD is affiliated with COLLAGE (Collaboration on Ageing) Ireland’s 3 star Reference Site and is a partner in the D4 Action Group of the EIP AHA.
